Route 4: The Pokemon League

Good morning, night, or mid-day to you. Once again, my name is Gedle Gedleh, and I'm here to show the way. From the very beginning, being the very best was the goal. We understood the Pokemon we passed by. We learned that the first step to becoming the very best is to hone and test our skills by challenging the Pokemon Gyms. Now after all eight, we've made it. To prove you have become your best, to prove you have fought the hardest, to prove you and your Pokemon have come so far, you challenge your biggest obstacle. Welcome to the Pokemon League.

In the Pokemon League, you will face the Elite Four. These 4 individuals will be masters of typings you have not faced in the gyms. The beginning of the highest level opponents you will face throughout your whole adventure. These battles are not like any other you have faced. If you fought a trainer in a gym, you are able to leave and return with all battle progress saved. However, the Elite Four are another beast in themselves. Once you enter, the doors behind you close.

In order to beat the Elite Fout, you have to fight all four consecutively. With this in mind, you need to make sure you have enough potions and revives and make sure you have enough Power Points (or PP for short) for your moves. You could be versus the final Elite Four member, the final Pokemon, and has 1 hp. If your whole team dies first, you have to restart. With how difficult the Elite Four is, once you beat the 4th one, you're done, right? Wrong. After the 4th member, you will then face the Champion of the Region.

The Champion is the strongest individual in the entire region. They are the last challenge to face before being crowned champion yourself. Don't forget: this is still in the Pokemon League. If you lose to the Champion, you will have to face the Elite Four all over again. Once you beat the Champion, you will be taken to the Hall of Fame and will register your name and your Pokemon into the history books.

The path as a Pokemon Trainer for most stops here, however, there are many things to do afterward. Whether it's competing in Pokemon beauty contests, challenging the Battle Frontier to get an extra challenge afterward, or on the journey to Catch 'Em All, your adventure is how you make it. This does not only apply to the Kanto region, this applies to all of them. Make it your own.

That's all from me, your guide to Victory Road. Safe trip champ and as always, keep on grinding!

  1. The conciseness with which you break down the major components of pokemon makes this beloved game to many even more accessible. The tone struck honestly transports me back to my third grade self playing heartgold under the covers so my mom couldn't find me. I distinctly remember this being my first pokemon game and thinking I was home free when I defeated Karen, the dark type elite four, and then was absolutely heartbroken to find Lance coming in with his Dragonites to wipe out what was left of my team. I grew up loving pokemon, and guides such as this break down the key components to hopefully show even more people the wonders of the world of pokemon

  2. Gedle, your blog is so distinctly atmospheric. I love how it feels like you're transporting us to a world with your choice of phrasing. Lately, I've gotten back into Pokemon! My boyfriend repaired and modified an old GameBoy I had sitting in my closet, and I have been obsessively playing Pokemon Yellow on it again. After playing the games and rewatching some of the show and movies (just rented "Destiny Deoxys" on Prime Video), I am shocked that Ash is the protagonist; he doesn't seem to know a single thing about type advantages. I like how you emphasized that the player needs to come to the Elite 4 stocked. In other gyms, you can heal between battles; this leads many to think they can do the same between Elite 4 members. Awesome blog, Gedle. This was such a nostalgic pleasure to read!
